School of Social Sciences

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading University. It employs over 5400 academic and professional staff to support over 41,000 students making us one of NZ’s largest employers. The School of Social Sciences engages critically with studies of culture and communication and issues confronting humanity and society in the past, the present and into the future. Our cosmopolitan staff include specialists engaged with research and creative projects in New Zealand and around the world. We attract around 2250 students each year, including around 90 PhD students. We welcome opportunities for collaborations in research, teaching and learning.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication to join the Faculty of Arts within our Social Sciences School.

Reporting to the Head of School, she or he will be expected to contribute to new programmes in Media and Communication, as well as to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; to supervise Masters and Doctoral research students; to have a record of sustained research achievement; to be currently pursuing an active research programme; and to participate in disciplinary development and service.

We are looking for someone with a strong research and teaching portfolio relative to their level of professional experience. A PhD in a relevant area is essential.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students. It provides on-site early childhood education centres for babies and pre-school children; it has parental leave and flexible work policies which support a balance between work, life, family and caring responsibilities.
