LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting and facilitating group discussions, mentoring the BCMP students, and being part of a local teaching team in a Clinical Learning Centre (CLC). This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities at CLCs identified by the UP Clinical Associate Programme Co-ordinating Team:
- Group discussions;
- MiniCEX assessments/observed consultations;
- Bedside teaching;
- Skills training;
- Training and mentoring students.
He/she will also render clinical services while working alongside students and at other times in order to maintain and improve own clinical skills. The incumbent will be expected to stay up to date with medical knowledge and new developments in the field of Primary Health Care as applicable to Clinical Associates. It will also be expected of the successful candidate to enrol for an applicable postgraduate degree.
Additional duties will include the following:
- Assisting with compiling, administering and marking tests, exams and OSCE’s;
- Setting and marking assignments;
- Developing CLC’s and their teaching platforms;
- Assisting with CPD programmes designed for qualified Clinical Associates;
- Initiating and participating in research activities related to the BCMP programme;
- Delivering interactive lectures to BCMP and other students
- Other educational duties as assigned by the BCMP programme.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A BCMP-degree;
- A health science related Master’s degree;
- Registration with the Medical and Dental Board of the HPCSA.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- The ability to teach undergraduate BCMP students;
- Research skills to inter alia search on the internet and find evidence-based solutions;
- Proficiency in the clinical skills and medical knowledge of the Clinical Associate profession.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- A Code 10 Drivers licence with PDP;
- Computer literacy (MS Word and Excel);
- UP graduate of the BCMP programme.
The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 405 655 to R 537 030 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
