Job Purpose:

Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has eleven campuses on which the Library has a presence. The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences has its presence on 5 of these campuses, and provides services to +/- 10 500 students. Essential responsibilities of this position are that you must be prepared to work during normal hours, as well as on Saturdays and after-hours, and within a team across different campuses on different days. To do this you will be required to be able to use your own transport to get to any campus. Your main focus as Assistant Librarian will be to take responsibility for training on the Bellville campus, as well as collection development, information provision, faculty liaison and research support to students and lecturers. As part of a team you will need to be flexible and adapt to the changes that Librarians face within the workplace and that may occur within CPUT.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • B Bibl or equivalent qualification as well as two (2) years relevant experience in a Higher Education Library environment or research  environment

OR

  • Senior Certificate or equivalent
  • Master's or Doctor's degree in LIS with no experience necessary

 

Recommendations:

  • Valid driver's licence
  • Ability and willingness to work after-hours shifts and across all campuses of CPUT Advanced qualifications in LIS
  • A paid-up member of LIASA
  • Experience in supporting training, collection development and research.
  • Experience in a Higher Education Library environment and/or in a special library environment that focuses on provision of information and research support to staff and students in Business and Management Sciences
  • Experience in legal/paralegal and real estate subjects
