It is the primary objective of the Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD) to be a centre that is focused on student wellness and development. The CSCD consists of five units and delivers an integrated, professional, student-centred service that focuses on support and development. This position is based at the Unit for Psychotherapeutic and Support Services.
Duties:
- Providing psychological therapy services to students, mainly individually but also in groups;
- Managing crises situations, especially trauma-based,with students;
- Developing and presenting workshops that promote a healthy lifestyle amongst students;
- Participating in the 24-hour crisis service of the CSCD.
Job Requirements:
- At least two years' registration as Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
- Proven experience in providing psychotherapeutic services to young adults, specifically trauma-based therapeutic service delivery;
- Proven experience in dealing with students with pathology (including substance-related cases, psychosis, rape and cases of aggression);
- The ability to certify a student, as well as good psychopharmacological knowledge;
- Experience in crisis management;
- Excellent communication and language skills in English or Afrikaans;
- Computer skills in the MS-Office environment.
Recommendation:
- Specific experience in the duties as indicated above;
- Experience in multidisciplinary cooperation with medical practitioners and other health professionals within the health sciences;
- Training in short-term psychotherapeutic modalities;
- Training in presenting therapy groups;
- Experience in crisis service provision in a psychological context;
- Experience of providing psychological services within a Higher Education environment;
- Experience in developing and presenting workshops and lectures on topics related to personal development and self-management;
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS counselling;
- Competence in an additional African language.
