The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences

The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences teaches and researches in the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Parasitology. The common thread in the School's discipline mix is the capacity of molecular-based approaches to create understanding and to lead to discovery.

Situated in the Faculty of Science, the School is one of the largest and most-complex in the University with nearly 200 full-time equivalent staff, an annual budget of $36M, a student load of more than 1,500 EFTSL (~27% international), and extensive laboratory facilities, scientific equipment holdings and a workshop.  It spans two buildings on the St Lucia campus has links to a number of the University's research institutes.

The role

You will actively foster a culture of workplace health and safety and lead the implementation of policies and procedures to achieve compliance with statutory requirements and organisational objectives.  Working with the School's Regulatory Compliance Officer, Occupational Health & Safety Committee and other University specialists, the Manager provides skilled assistance, advice and oversight in the areas of quarantine; customs; hazardous materials transport; chemical, radiation and biological safety; and the prevention of illness/injury arising from exposure to risks from hazards.

The person

Applicants should possess postgraduate qualifications in occupational health and safety or the physical or biological sciences or related field, and/or extensive experience and management expertise, and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

This is a full-time, 12 month maternity leave cover appointment at HEW Level 8, from December 2016.  A handover from the incumbent is included.  The remuneration package will be in the range $90,107 - $101,179 (increasing by 3% on 1 January 2017), plus 9.5% superannuation, depending on qualifications and experience.
