This position has an end date of one year from date of hire. 

The Glen Sather University of Alberta Sports Medicine Clinic (GSSMC) is currently searching for a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA). This position reports to the Executive Director of the GSSMC. The successful applicant will play an active role in contributing to the creation of a safe, efficient and effective practice environment. In accordance with the Supervision Resource Guide for Alberta Physiotherapists - Physiotherapy Alberta, the individual will participate in both direct and indirect patient care.

This position requires a working knowledge of the Heath Information Act (HIA) and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) to ensure that the privacy requirements are adhered to in relation to all patient information

Duties

  • Implements therapeutic interventions as assigned by the physical therapist, including thermal, electrical and mechanical modalities and teaches therapeutic exercise
  • Reinforces the physical therapist’s explanation and provides verbal instructions and demonstrations to assist the patient regarding the treatment plan
  • Provides feedback to the physical therapists in evaluating the effectiveness of specific interventions in relation to identified patient outcomes
  • Schedules patient follow up appointments
  • Escorts patients to treatment area
  • Communicates with physical therapists to maintain patient and clinic flow
  • Cleans, organizes and restocks treatment area throughout the shift
  • Performs tasks that contribute to the creation of a safe and effective practice environment
  • Assists with Biomechanical Testing using 3Dimensional Gait Analysis system
  • Photocopies, scans and documents information into the patient’s electronic health record
  • Assists in maintaining patient charts and files
  • Retrieves pertinent information from NetCare/provincial health record in accordance with privacy legislation
  • Maintains physical therapy, medical supply and extended services inventory
  • Provides fitting and information regarding braces and supports as directed by the physical therapist
  • Processes payment for items purchased in the clinic, if necessary


Qualifications

  • Minimum Rehabilitation Assistant Diploma
  • 1 year of related work experience in a Physical Therapy clinic or health care facility
  • WHMIS knowledge is an asset
  • Familiar with electronic recording systems
  • Medical terminology is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Self-directed and strong organizational skills
