Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant, working on the CMS experiment within the Particle Physics group at the University of Bristol. The successful applicant will play a major role in collider dark matter searches and their combination with direct and indirect searches. They will also work on R&D towards the upgrade of the Level-1 trigger of the CMS experiment at the LHC. A good understanding of the methods and technologies used in collider physics is essential, but enthusiasm to go beyond pure collider physics is highly valued.

The Bristol particle physics group consists currently of approximately 50 physicists, students and support staff, including nine academic staff. The group contributed to the design and construction of the CMS ECAL, Level-1 trigger, and computing system, and continues to make major contributions to CMS physics results in SUSY, exotic and top physics. The group is now active in R&D for future upgrades of the CMS tracker, trigger and track trigger.

As well as CMS, the Bristol Particle Physics group’s activities currently encompass the LHCb and NA62 experiments at CERN, the SoLiD neutrino experiment, preparation for future experiments (including new efforts on DUNE and LZ), and a strong programme of detector development and knowledge transfer.

This Research Associate position will be funded by the group’s STFC Consolidated Grant until 30th September 2019. It is hoped that support will be renewed in subsequent grant proposals.
