Job Details

Job Purpose This role will manage the research, reputational and internal communications elements of the College of Social Sciences, thereby raising the profile of the College and its constituent Schools amongst its numerous stakeholders internally and externally. The post holder will work very closely with colleagues across the research communications community to ensure a joined-up approach to this activity across the College and wider University.
The post holder will devise and deliver a research communications strategy in a coordinated and consistent fashion with the key College research strengths underpinning the message. They will also be responsible for the development and delivery of an internal communications strategy for the College.
The post holder will be expected to act as a deputy to the College Marketing and Communications Manager in the area of communications as necessary. Person Specification • Degree-level education or equivalent work experience
• Experience of devising, and delivery, multi-channel strategic communications plans
• Substantial experience of working in a marketing or communications environment
• Significant event management experience, involving internal and external stakeholders
• Experience of translating complex information into accessible communications and multiple channels
• Experience of managing a range of internal communications channels in a complex organisation
• Experience of working with Content Management Systems
• Proven copywriting ability for a range of audiences and communications channels
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude
• Enthusiastic approach with an ability to bring people together to work on a common cause
• Ability to influence people in senior positions
• A proven, high standard of written and oral communication and confidence of dealing with projects at all levels
• Well-developed administrative and organisational skills with a proven ability to pay attention to detail
• Tenacious, with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving
• Computer literate, confident and competent in the use of database systems and electronic communication
• Experience of using social media as part of a marketing or communications campaign
• Ability to work with initiative and being able to prioritise work in a pressured environment
• A team player but someone who can work independently
• Prepared to undertake occasional work in the evenings and weekends with some nights spent away from home.
