Job Details

The University of Sheffield's School of Law is a large and diverse law school with an international reputation for excellence in research, for the expertise of its staff, and the achievements of its graduates. The School was ranked in the top 10 in the UK for research in REF2014. The total student body numbers around 1,200 undergraduates and more than 200 postgraduates (including a large community of graduate researchers in the School reading for research degrees). There are more than 70 academic staff in the School.

You will be joining the School at an exciting time. We are building a team of approximately 20 professional services staff, following a recent review and restructure of the School’s professional support provision. We are seeking staff who are committed to excellence in student experience, and who are motivated to achieve the Team objectives of innovation, professionalism and cross-team, collaborative working. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to process improvement, build their professional networks and to make a real difference both to students and to the success of this vibrant and ambitious Law School.

As Events and Communications Officer you will provide vital support in delivering a busy schedule of events to assist the School of Law in achieving its aims, primarily through raising the School’s research profile and delivering against research grants, driving student recruitment, and providing an excellent student experience. In this cross cutting role you will work flexibly with colleagues in different professional services teams and with academic staff to deliver events as required. You will also provide support for both internal and external communications activity, acting as the first point of contact for prospective students to the School and supporting the admissions process including conversion activity.

You will have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications/experience), good IT skills, including web design, experience of event co-ordination and delivery and of developing and delivering communications materials. The role requires effective communication skills and excellent customer service skills, in addition to the ability to work independently, prioritise a varied workload and work with a diverse range of staff, students and external contacts at all levels.
