The US Market Human Resources organization has an opening for an HR Assistant who will be responsible for supporting approximately 5-6 Human Resources Business Partners in support of the Global Human Health (GHH) US Commercial organization. The individual selected must have the innate ability to prioritize work across various stakeholders, have strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with numerous stakeholders, be comfortable with multi-tasking on diverse responsibilities and tasks, be able to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment, and be flexible.

This role is critical to the success of the HR Business Partner team and will be involved in activities that include talent management processes and programs, retention and reward programs, organizational restructuring, HR operational responsibilities, and annual HR processes. The ability to build and manage relationships in a cross-functional, matrix organization is necessary. A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is required due to the sensitive nature and policy requirements for human resources data. A strong orientation toward data analytics, comfort working with systems and Microsoft tools is required. Individuals with previous HR Assistant responsibilities beyond secretarial duties or college graduates seeking entry way to a professional human resources career path are preferred.

The primary activities include and are not limited to the following:

- Partner across the HR Operating Model with HR Operations and all Centers of Excellence (Staffing, Compensation, Talent Management, etc.) to ensure HR BP team needs are met
- Identify and improve/standardize process execution for HR tasks and/or recommend if they are more appropriately performed by HR Operations
- Produces/completes various work assignments requiring analytical ability, independent judgment, creativity and problem solving skills
- Ability to analyze employee data and to identify interesting outcomes or specific trends within the business
- Provide support to the HR BP team on organizational restructuring and realignment activities
- Self-starter whose work priorities and activities are reviewed with little supervision
- Proficient with or ability to learn HR systems to complete day-to-day functions and assignments (Transition Manager, HtR, myCareer, myPeople, Comet/SAP)
- Appropriately manage relationships to achieve outcomes consistent with HR Operating Model responsibilities and scope.
- Communication Skills must be at a level to effectively interact with Merck executives, managers and employees.
- Responsible for adhering to all compliance requirements for HR and the enterprise
- Innate ability to problem solve through investigation and solution identification
- Assist with any other tasks and projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

- High School Diploma, Required
- Bachelor’s degree, advanced education, and/or certification such as Professional in Human Resources Certification, Project Management Professional Certification, Preferred
Required:

- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an HR-related role - OR- college graduate with a BS degree or higher in Human Resources or a related discipline
- Advanced computer skills using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point etc.) and operation of other peripheral devices
- Documented experience as a strong performer in current and past positions
- Ability to handle and prioritize a large number of simultaneous assignments
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to learn and understand the commercial operating model, business priorities, talent strategy and needs
- Ability to identify appropriate HR solutions to support business needs
- Ability to partner with HR centers of excellence and HR Operations to resolve issues or optimize problem resolution
- Team player who seeks creative solutions to problems

Preferred

- SAP or business systems processing Experience: Expense Reports; Purchase Orders and Payment Requests; as well as the capability to run reports within SAP
- Bachelor’s degree
