Position Overview:

As a postdoctoral fellow in Merck Research Labs Discovery Oncology group based in Boston, MA, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists to design, develop and validate in vitro cell culture models and assays to study the interaction of fibroblasts and other stromal cells with tumor cells and immune cells. This work will enable understanding of the role of cancer associated fibroblasts and stromal tissues in the establishment and survival of tumors.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Conducting in vitro cell culture experiments and analysis using a variety of techniques including but not limited multiparameter flow cytometry and mRNA profiling, e.g. single cell mRNAseq

- Collaborating with Merck and external scientists conducting in vivo cancer model studies to correlate and validate the in vitro models

- Characterization of cellular components of tumor biopsies from humans and animal models

- Data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication and presentation of results

- Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

- PhD with 3 years or less of postdoctoral experience or met all the requirements for a PhD by May 2017

Required Experience and Skills:

- Isolation and culture of primary human immune cells and fibroblasts

- Ability to conceive, design, execute and communicate complex experiments in the field of tumor immunology or fibrosis as evidenced by publications

- Multiparameter flow cytometry

- Must be an independent and self-motivated scientist

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Tumor immunology

- Experience studying cancer-associated fibroblasts

- Experience with three dimensional tissue culture models
