The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Exploratory Science Center (ESC) Cambridge, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck and Co., is focused on driving early discovery research. We are seeking an innovative and experienced scientist to join the Merck Exploratory Science Center (ESC) in Cambridge, MA.

The successful candidate will become part of a creative and fast-paced team that will discover novel biologics targeting one of two (2) areas:

1. Interaction of the microbiome and host with the ultimate goal of delivering novel therapeutics to address significant unmet medical need in multiple therapeutic areas

2. Novel prophylactic or therapeutic interventions to address significant unmet medical need in infectious disease.

Expected to leverage the advances in synthesis and delivery technologies of complex molecules to impact ESC programs. In addition, will be expected to supervise and participate to experimental activities and laboratory organization.



- Required: PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Nanotechnology or related discipline

Required Experience:

Research experience in any of these areas: Peptide / Oligosaccharide / Natural Product Synthesis, Vaccine Chemistry, or Bioconjugation

Ability to independently contribute to research directions and solve challenging issues

Effective communication skills

Strong history of publication in Peer-Reviewed Journals

Preferred Experience:

- Knowledge of host immune responses to vaccination and natural infection

- Research experience with the Microbiome

- Experience mentoring scientists and/or research teams
