This post offers an excellent opportunity for early career statistician or mathematician with experience in health economic modelling or Monte Carlo or Markov Chain Monte Carlo estimation. Funding is available for 6 months full time or 12 months half time at Senior Research Associate level.

The successful candidate will explore the application of efficient Monte Carlo sampling methods in the computation of value of information quantities such as Expected Value of Perfect Information (EVPI) and Expected Value of Partial Perfect Information (EVPPI). They will join the Collaboration and innovation in Difficult and Complex randomised controlled Trials In Invasive procedures (ConDuCT-II) hub (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/social-community-medicine/centres/conduct2/), which is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), and also the Health Economics at University of Bristol (HEB) team (http://www.bris.ac.uk/social-community-medicine/centres/healthecon) and Multi-Parameter Evidence Synthesis (MPES) research group (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/social-community-medicine/projects/mpes/). This post is highly collaborative and the successful candidate will work with Dr Howard Thom, Dr Nicky Welton, and Professor Christophe Andrieu at the University of Bristol, Professor Mike Giles at the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University, and Dr Chris Jackson at the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge.

The successful applicant will be a capable, hard-working, motivated person, able to take responsibility and work on their own initiative as well as part of a team. The post-holder will be expected to publish research findings in journals, disseminate findings at scientific conferences, and contribute to the development of research proposals. The post-holder will therefore possess excellent writing and communication skills. There will be opportunities for training and development through the School’s Short Course programme (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/social-community-medicine/shortcourse). There will be opportunities to teach on existing short courses.
