The Mathematical Modeler will work to accelerate progress in vaccine, biologic, and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The candidate will develop and apply quantitative mathematical modeling and simulation methodologies to a wide range of problems in the pharmaceutical industry.
Work may include, but is not limited, to developing compact dynamical models with a reduced number of parameters for complex biological systems. Examples include modeling viral infection, enzymatic degradation, bioreactor modeling, and disease modeling. The candidate should have an ample understanding of fundamental transport phenomena and kinetic theories applied to biological systems and its numerical solution.
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD candidate in Engineering, Mathematics, Computational Biology, Physics, or other related fields.
Required:
- Extensive knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Mathematical analysis and modeling using continuous and/or stochastic models in computational biology, chemical engineering, and fluid dynamics.
- The ability to formulate new models and analyze them with existing experimental data.
- The ability to program and run simulations of such models in some appropriate system (Matlab, Mathematica, Python, Fortran or more specialized software such as ANSYS Fluent, or COMSOL in a particular research domain).
- Able to work full-time for a period of 9-12 weeks beginning in June 2017.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make high-level presentations for senior executives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work with incomplete or imperfect data.
