The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Research Coordinator in the overall operation and administrative support of the research projects.

Duties

  • Carries out recruitment of study participants in accordance with the study protocol and inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Visits community seniors' centres to collect data for the study
  • Assists in the consent process for patient enrolment and safety reports
  • Administers research questionnaires and fulfillment of study procedures
  • Assists in maintenance of study database and records related to the study and ensures study documents are up to date
  • Ensure all aspects of the studies are performed within International Conference on Harmonization/Good Clinical Practice and Tri-Council Policy Statement guidelines and that all paperwork is up to date and available for internal trials audit
  • Verifies data collected for completeness and accuracy and monitors for quality assurance
  • Assists in writing reports derived from data collected
  • Participates in weekly meetings with the research coordinator to discuss the progress of the study and troubleshoot any issues
  • Provides updates and recommendations to the PI and Research Coordinator on study as necessary
  • Coordinates communication across the research team
  • Fosters and maintains excellent relationships with project collaborators and participants
  • Provides administrative support to research projects
  • Performs general office duties such as managing phone calls by providing pertinent and prompt information as needed; printing, typing, filing and maintaining filing system
  • Schedules meetings, appointments and making follow up calls for the research project
  • Creates and updates spreadsheets and database for tracking research participants
  • Assists with searching online and in-house library resources, ordering copies of publications, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required


Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma; post-secondary education preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience in medical or public health research
  • Experience in working with confidential data
  • Computer proficiency using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications (G-Mail, Google Docs)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed and strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to work with seniors
  • Knowledge of, and ability to maintain compliance with University policies and procedures
