Post-Graduate Research Administrator (AD.10)

The Wits School of Public Health (WSPH) is one of the largest Schools of Public Health in South Africa, with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach and policy engagement activities. The School seeks to appoint a post-graduate research administrator to provide administrative support to its Master’s programmes.

Qualifications experience and attributes

  • Matric and a tertiary qualification, with at least 5 years administrative experience
  • Ability to work independently, to prioritise tasks, to be meticulous, and to be exceptionally well organised
  • Highly computer literate (MS Office, Internet, E-mail). Experience with the current student information management system is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and organisational skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and manage competing requests
  • Experience in working with post-graduate students at the University is highly desirable


  • Facilitate submission of student research protocols for assessment by WSPH assessor groups
  • Ensure submission of student research protocols to the Faculty Postgraduate Office
  • Facilitate submission of protocols to the University Human Research Ethics Committee (Medical)
  • Facilitate nomination of examiners for research reports
  • Ensure submission of research reports to Faculty Postgraduate Office
  • Maintain comprehensive database for tracking student research progress
  • Follow up and communicate with students and their supervisors regarding research progress
  • Organise ad hoc supervisor workshops, seminars, and student-supervisor writing retreats, and other events related to the Masters programmes
  • Generate research status reports for WSPH Executive Committee and as requested
  • Ensure that any challenges or problems related to post-graduate research in the School are escalated to the relevant academic coordinators
  • Coordination of the School’s Postgraduate Committee quarterly meetings and minute taking
  • Follow-up alumni and maintain alumni database
  • Liaise with relevant Faculty and/or University Research Offices
