ACADEMIC HEADSHIP IN THE DIVISION OF CLINICAL ASSOCIATES, DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY MEDICINE, SCHOOL OF CLINICAL MEDICINE, FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (5 years fixed term contract)

The Faculty of Health Sciences invites suitably qualified joint staff or employees interested in being part of a dynamic, growing academic division, to apply for the post of academic head of the Division of Clinical Associates. This post would be suitable for someone with a commitment to academic excellence and educational leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment, exceptional interpersonal skills, capacity for innovative and original thinking, ability to exercise a high degree of personal initiative in organising his/her own responsibilities and a commitment to working to deadlines calmly and efficiently.

Qualifications:

    Registration with the HPCSA as a medical practitioner or clinical associate. A Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline Sound knowledge and experience of the clinical associate programme nationally and the BCMP degree at Wits The candidate should be actively involved in the education and training curricula of undergraduate students within the Faculty of Health Sciences. Research experience and possession of a PhD would be advantageous but are not an essential requirement. The applicant must have demonstrated well developed proven communication, organizational, problem solving, leadership and project management skills. Must have the ability to manage change in the division The candidate must be within Wits Teaching platform.

Duties:

    Strengthen the delivery and development of the BCMP degree programme Provide leadership in the development of the career path for graduates and additional academic programmes for clinical associates, in particular postgraduate degrees and diplomas, short courses and continuing professional development activities Advocate for the clinical associates programme within the faculty, within Gauteng and North West provinces and nationally. Support the development of a research portfolio in the division Monitor and report on the adequacy and appropriate standard of teaching and research throughput Promote staff development and manage staff performance and assessment within the division. Provide support to all staff  that are part of the academic Division of Clinical Associates Work with other Divisional heads to ensure sound financial and personnel management Encourage collaboration between divisions working across the teaching platforms Set norms and standards for the maintenance of service delivery and quality outputs in the division. Promote academic service delivery and enhance the development of the training platform Collaborate with other universities offering the degree, especially in regard to the national examination for clinical associates Further the mission and vision of the School of Clinical Medicine and the Department of Family Medicine.
 

The awarding of the title Professor/Associate Professor/Adjunct Professor will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, research and other academic criteria as determined by the faculty guidelines.
