JOB DUTIES The Manager of Discovery and Discovery Services is responsible for maintaining communication and good relationships with commercial discovery service providers, link resolution services and library-run hosting services facilitating access to Springer Nature’s online content. S/h ewill engage with multiple external and internal stakeholders – such as library and corporate sales, account development, metadata and product management – in order to ensure maximum discoverability and accuracy of Springer Nature content. It is essential that Springer Nature continues to develop its solutions in this area, and this role is key in understanding new trends and technologies in the market and providing guidance and support to the organisation in leveraging these in order to maximise the discoverability of content. Specific responsibilities include: Maximize the discoverability of Springer Nature content across multiple platforms, locations and services Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of discovery and provide guidance to the business on the best ways to embrace new methods / technologies Maintain strong relationships with commercial discovery service providers, link resolution services and library-run hosting services Engage with all relevant internal departments on all matters pertaining to these services – including working with client-facing staff to deliver excellent support to customer Provide and maintain documentational guidelines and support for both internal staff and customers around the implementation of discovery services and link resolvers Act as technical liaison to Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) services in collaboration with our Editorial A&I team Ensure our content is distributed and ingested by A&I services according to requirements, maximizing our share of voice and benchmarks Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness of initiatives and monitor discoverability and access to content Participate in internal and external working groups (as applicable) to drive the main agenda of discoverability of Springer Nature content Other duties as required by manager JOB REQUIREMENTS Education to graduate level; scientific discipline an advantage, but not essential Excellent understanding of the discovery & discovery services market – with particular reference to emerging trends and developments in the field Familiarity with the reports, metadata and full text content made available to external service providers by Springer Nature Knowledge of Springer Nature publishing processes, workflows and content Understanding of the Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) services market Excellent understanding of bibliographic metadata and formats Excellent relationship-building and management skills Experience of process optimisation and best-practice process development Excellent communication skills, with particular reference to the translation of information between user, business and IT disciplines Ability to explain complex issues in a clear and concise way Pro-active approach Strong innovation and facilitation skills We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes: - Medical, Dental and Vision - Life and AD&D - 401(k) - Flexible Spending Accounts - Transit Accounts - Tuition Assistance - Summer Hours Springer Nature is an Equal Opportunity Employer that complies with the laws and regulations set forth in the following EEO Is The Law Poster: http://www.dol.gov/ofccp/regs/compliance/posters/pdf/eeopost.pdf.
