Job Details

The University of Liverpool’s School of Law and Social Justice is formed of two Departments: the Department of Law (known as the Liverpool Law School) and the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, and has recently undergone a period of significant growth. Since its formation in 2010, the School of Law and Social Justice has sought to build on its existing strengths in both Departments, through enhanced support for research, the development of innovative education models, and a School-wide commitment to the agenda of social justice. In doing so, the School aims to make a distinctive contribution to world-class scholarship, knowledge exchange, and policy development.

The Liverpool Law School aims to be at the forefront of legal research and education. The Department has a strong research ethos and prides itself on its supportive and collegiate environment. It is also committed to innovative teaching and learning strategies, which enable students to benefit from both traditional and modern approaches and technologies, in order to help them acquire knowledge and develop key skills within a stimulating and positive learning environment.

The School of Law and Social Justice now seeks to make two appointments to Liverpool Law School, both at Professorial-level. One will be a permanent Professor of Law, and the other will be a permanent Professor of Law, with 5-year Head of Department responsibilities. Both appointees will have a world-leading research profile, including experience of securing competitive grant funding, will regularly publish in high-impact law journals, will have a desire to mentor junior colleagues, and an ability to provide innovative and engaging teaching.

The Head of Liverpool Law School will additionally be expected to demonstrate an ability and desire to act as a strategic leader for the Department, including the articulation of their strategic vision for the Department, the development of Liverpool Law School through direct and collegial engagement with colleagues, and the oversight of departmental-level administrations, including implementing departmental research and education plans, and developing appropriate structures to lead a growing body of academic colleagues.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver. Perrett Laver will support the University in helping to identify the widest possible field of qualified candidates and assisting in the assessment of candidates against the requirements for the roles. For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Shehzana Mamujee via Shehzana.Mamujee@perrettlaver.com or +44 (0) 20 7340 6273.

Applications should consist of a full CV detailing academic and professional qualifications, full employment history, latest remuneration and relevant achievements and should be accompanied by a covering letter describing briefly their suitability for the role in question, why the appointment is of interest, and what they believe they can bring to the role.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 16th November 2016.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit the Campus on Wednesday 8th February 2017, during which time they will be invited to give a presentation, meet with a range of Faculty members, and observe the Campus facilities. Formal interviews for both roles will take place the following day, on Thursday 9th February 2017, at which point selection of the preferred candidates will take place.
