The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit [the Unit] is the University of Queensland's [UQ] interdisciplinary place of Indigenous learning and research in the areas of Indigenous knowledge and related academic fields. The Unit is focused on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in higher education and works with the University to create an inclusive environment for Indigenous people's cultures, knowledge and ways of learning.
The primary function of the position is to assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive outreach and engagement plan and to deliver Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student outreach activities and community engagement. The Outreach and Engagement Officer will report to the Outreach and Engagement Team Leader and will deliver the activities in co-ordination with the Outreach and Engagement Manager, and with the UQ's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit, relevant Faculties and Schools and other project partners.

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree or demonstrate an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. This role will require an individual who has excellent organisational and time management skills, well developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Knowledge of the Australian school and tertiary education system and an understanding of the barriers, challenges and constraints that inhibit aspiration to university level study for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people would be an advantage.
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6 until the 31 December 2017. The remuneration package will be in the range $72,045.70 - $77,635.44 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package range $78,890.04 - 85,010.81 p.a.).
