Job Details

The Department of Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with expertise in Human Computer Interaction (HCI). The appointment is part of a strategic plan to expand Digital Health research in the Merchant Venturers’ School of Engineering at Bristol.

You will be on track to becoming an outstanding researcher, undertaking innovative research which complements the School’s research in HCI and in Digital Health. You will have international recognition and a significant number of high quality publications. You will have proven ability or potential to attract research funding from government and/or industrial sources. A particular aim is to leverage the success of the SPHERE IRC and thereby grow Digital Health at Bristol; through your track record in HCI you will be expected to take a major role in achieving that strategic aim.

You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in areas of Computer Science according to your experience. We are looking to enhance our teaching in computer science around user interaction, user experience and interaction technologies – especially as applied to societally-important problems around long term health conditions. Bristol is a civic University with excellent links to the city and its citizens (SPHERE for example works with more than 200 local residents). An interest in in-the-wild use of technology with end users will be important.

Applicants must include in their CV or cover letter two one page statements:
- One on their research plans and how they will impact on the research profile of the Department; and
- One on the contributions that they can make to teaching in the Department, especially in respect of innovation in delivery and content.

This post is being offered on a full time, open-ended contract.

It is expected that shortlisting and interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.

For informal discussion about the post you are welcome to contact:
Prof Seth Bullock, Head of Department; seth.bullock@bristol.ac.uk
or
Prof Ian Craddock; ian.craddock@bristol.ac.uk
