Queensland Genomics Health Alliance

In September 2015, the Queensland State Government announced a $25m five-year commitment to research aimed at integrating genomics into everyday healthcare.

Potentially positioning Queensland as a world-leader in the translation of genomics research into healthcare practice, the Queensland Genomics Health Alliance (QGHA) will encourage collaboration within and between the state's health system and research and academic communities to discover how genomics can improve health outcomes for Queenslanders.

With a charter to be patient-centred and clinically-led, The University of Queensland has been chosen to lead the QGHA, working collaboratively with all universities in the State, key Queensland-based research organisations, the Queensland Hospital and Health Services network, private health providers and associated health organisation throughout the State.

This is a new position required to support UQ's and Queensland's involvement in the Queensland Genomics Health Alliance, a Queensland State Government  funded   initiative.  UQ's involvement is overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), supported by the Executive Director, Queensland Genomics Health Alliance and this new position

The role

The successful appointee will develop and implement strategies to build the public profile and professional image of the QGHA, both throughout Queensland and nationally. The role involves working collaboratively with Demonstration Project and Capability-building Workstream leaders, as well as communications personnel from Alliance member organisations, to develop content and manage communications across a range of channels.  The Communications Manager will also have overall responsibility for the planning and management of regular QGHA internal communications events and forums.  

The person

Applicants should possess qualifications and training equivalent to a postgraduate degree in journalism, communications or a relevant field, as well as demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and monitoring a communications and engagement strategy. You should also possess broad knowledge and understanding of science, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts and ideas to the general public. 

Remuneration

This appointment is full-time, fixed-term for 4 years at HEW Level 8. The remuneration package will be in the range $90,107 - $101,179 p.a, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $105,425 - $118,379 p.a).
