Merck strives to become a leader in the discovery and development of Biologic Therapeutics. To this end, Biologics Discovery Boston is a newly formed group within the Biologics and Vaccines Discovery organization with the mission of creating Protein Therapeutics in multiple Disease areas to address significant unmet medical need. Based in the Longwood Medical area location, the group will use state of the art technologies to enable therapeutics discovery and development for project teams across the Merck network. The Principal Scientist, Antibody Platforms will lead our efforts to build recombinant antibody-based platforms for generation of reagent and therapeutic monoclonal antibodies to support programs in multiple disease areas. The successful applicant will lead a small team to implement new technologies to further our goal of becoming a leader in Biologics Discovery. They will have:
- Hands-on experience of mAb generation and Protein Engineering using display technologies including phage display
- Experience with the de novo generation of recombinant antibody libraries
- Experience in managing and mentoring non-PhD scientists
- Preferred experience includes success in the design and generation of alternate protein modalities including bi-specifics, alternate protein scaffolds and/or ADCs
You will also collaborate with B&V Discovery colleagues in our Palo Alto site to help execute B&V’s therapeutics strategy. As such, it is crucial to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the need to form close interactions both within the Biologics Discovery Boston group as well as across the B&V and greater Merck Network.
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD in Biological Sciences/Biochemistry
Required:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience post-PhD including significant industry experience in the Discovery of Biologics Therapeutics and a strong record of peer reviewed publications/patents.
- Hands-on experience of mAb generation and Protein Engineering using display technologies including phage display
- Experience with the de novo generation of recombinant antibody libraries
- Experience in managing and mentoring non-PhD scientists
Preferred
- Experience and Skills: Preferred experience includes success in the design and generation of alternate protein modalities including bi-specifics, alternate protein scaffolds and/or ADCs
