Seeking an entry level, detail-oriented individual to assist the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist with the administration of the following safety programs at a life science instrument manufacturing and R&D site: chemical, radiation, laser, biological, and process safety. Approximately 60-70% of the role will be focused on radiation safety and the remainder of the role on the other EH&S programs. This is a great opportunity to be exposed to almost every facet of EH&S and to launch a successful career.
  Responsibilities- Radiation Safety Program
  • Coordinates with PerkinElmer’s domestic and international field service engineers in order to safely ship low-activity, sealed radioactive sources from a customer back to PerkinElmer’s Hopkinton site.
  • Completes State regulatory forms under the direction and guidance of the EH&S Specialist that are necessary to remove radioactive material from a customer’s site.
  • Performs radiological surveys of incoming packages containing radioactive material.
  • Performs monthly radiological surveys of areas where radioactive material is used and stored at the PerkinElmer Hopkinton site.This includes areas where positron-emitting radioisotopes are used.
Responsibilities- EH&S Programs
  • Participates in site health & safety audits.
  • Updates site safety plans.
  • Updates chemical inventories and safety data sheets.
  • Solicits input from employees on improving the safety programs/addressing safety issues.
  • Assists in accident investigations/follow-up.
  • Helps generate various reports required by Federal or State regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as a member of the site’s emergency preparedness and response team.
