About this Post

The Tenancy Support Officer ensures that students living in Unipol's properties do so in a harmonious and pleasant environment and to promote that environment and that if problems arise within aspects of their day to day lives related to their occupancy of a property then these will be addressed efficiently and sympathetically.

This post entails taking first line responsibility for:

• dealing with Unipol's tenant relationships
• supporting and training staff to improve tenant-related matters
• supporting the Deputy and Assistant Chief Executives in dealing with complaints
• dealing with any community issues that might occur throughout the portfolio
• measuring and monitoring customer satisfaction from students of Unipol' services.

The post holder also has responsibility for:

• leading on tenancy relations matters including the support of special student groups including international students, students with disabilities and students under the age of 18
• maintaining an organisational culture of recognising and productively tackling matters that detract from the student experience
• ensuring the promotion and productive use of mediation in tenant and community relations
• maintaining Unipol's social networking sites to encourage social networking and communication
• maintaining publications dealing with tenancy relations, including tenants' newsletters
• running Unipol's social programmes and family housing socials
• capturing and monitoring data relating to tenants' satisfaction
• training staff, residents’ assistants, students and external delegates in tenancy relations matters
• ensuring Unipol's involvement with others relating to community safety and security
• organising events designed to build community cohesion.

This post is responsible for maintaining, operating and reviewing all systems in respect of tenancy support including: inter-tenant friction, anti-social behaviour, the effects of crime or fire, mental health and serious illness and for servicing Unipol's network of referral agencies in respect of these areas of responsibility.

The Tenancy Support Officer is a key member of Unipol and will be expected to play a full role in interacting with other Housing Management Officers, the Deputy and Assistant Chief Executives to assist and support them.

In the event of a major incident or emergency taking place at a property, the Tenancy Support Officer will attend the site and assist as requested, additional anti-social hours payment will be made in respect of any time taken on fulfilling these duties.

Unipol houses a diverse client group and a good relationship with tenants and between tenants is essential to the operation of our housing management systems. The post holder will have a core responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships between tenants and, where necessary, their parents or representatives.

The Tenancy Support Officer will also manage a number of properties of Unipol owned or leased properties. These properties will be identified by the Assistant Chief Executive - Housing.

This post also involves providing staff cover in the event of illness or holiday of other members of the housing management team and will be expected to gain a good working knowledge of the entire Unipol housing portfolio.

This post is to cover maternity leave. It carries a Support Staff Grade 6 salary of £26,052- £31,076 according to qualifications and relevant experience. It is essential that the successful candidate should have an operable driving license and have frequent access to their own motor transport and be willing to drive their own transport to fulfil the duties of the post. A mileage allowance is paid for work related business. The post is based in Leeds (located within the housing management team) but occasionally will require visits to Bradford and Nottingham to deal with Unipol's services there. The post holder is directly answerable to the Deputy Chief Executive who they will meet with regularly.

The post involves the regular use of mediation and evidence of mediation experience and training, together with any qualification in that area would be a significant advantage.

The post requires flexibility, initiative and considerable organisation of own workload, under the guidance of the Deputy Chief Executive. Certain health and safety routines carry a high level of personal responsibility and must be carried out with accuracy and rigour.

All those working in Unipol are jointly employed by Unipol and the University of Leeds. The post will involve some limited late night working (normally no later than 7.00pm however this will be 9.00pm for the welcoming meals) and weekend work at specific times of the year, together with the need to undertake cover and call-out arrangements over some public holidays when arrangements for dealing with emergencies have to be made by the Housing Manager. The post holder is also required to work some early mornings on a rota to answer telephone enquiries about repairs.
