Global Technical Operations - Shared Services is seeking an interested candidate to lead and oversee problem solving investigations within our worldwide technical network. This person is responsible for Subject Matter Expertise in Root Cause Analysis. The candidate will work with individuals across the network to identify root cause, ensure sound investigation reports are authored and proactively identify other sites/processes that could have similar issues so that corrective actions can be implemented. The candidate will need to successfully interface with and lead teams comprised of engineering, quality, analytical and manufacturing specialists located at manufacturing sites around the world. Onsite travel will be required

The candidate will be responsible for providing senior leaders with the current status and final outcome on a daily and weekly basis. The candidate will ensure continuous improvement of the problem solving process by conducting after action reviews.

Interested candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to quickly solve technical challenges, to lead project teams, to appropriately apply project management and change execution management principles on complicated projects, and to successfully influence others outside their direct line of authority and in other organizations. They must have a sound understanding and experience with small molecule pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Lean six-sigma experience is preferred. When hired they will need to quickly come up to speed with Merck internal practices, organizational approaches, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: B.S in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Pharmacy or other related engineering/scientific fields

- Preferred: M.S. or Ph,D in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Pharmacy or other related engineering/scientific fields

Required:

- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including flexibility and ability to work in a team environment. Proven analytical capabilities and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

- Minimum 12 years experience in a technical support role for drug substance or drug product manufacturing or development.

- Minimum 5 years experience in small molecule drug substance or product support with demonstrated expertise in one or more related unit operations.

Preferred:

- Strong technical/manufacturing background in pharmaceutical and packaging operations in general and solid dosage in particular, including quality systems and process technology (technology transfer, process & cleaning validation, problem solving)

- Lean tools and systems (Lean Six Sigma green/black belt is a plus)

- Strong project management skills & proven ability to lead and/or manage complex projects.

- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to participate actively in virtual teams & communicate, collaborate, negotiate & persuade across a broad variety of functions and cultures

- Ability to work independently or in teams.

- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are preferred to manage a broad spectrum of activities/projects.

- Strong communication skills.

- Be willing to travel up to 40 % to support technical issues / projects.
