Technician

Job Purpose

This post is funded for 24 months to provide support to the BBSRC funded microbial genome sequencing facility – MicrobesNG, and to the microbial genomics research of Dr Alan McNally, with emphasis on a Royal Society funded project on population genomics of antimicrobial resistance.

The role holder will provide support to day to day sample preparation, analysis and library maintenance whilst ensuring excellent quality control and attention to detail

The post holder will require experience of working with bacterial samples (preservation, replication) and molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction and quantitation, DNA library preparation, PCR amplification)

Person Specification

• • BSc Hons Degree in an appropriate subject
• • In-depth practical knowledge of technical and scientific methods stated above and Good Laboratory Practice gained through extensive experience and formal qualification
• • Extensive experience of similar laboratory based work
• • Positive service attitude and shows courtesy in dealing with others
• • Ability to organise and manage own work load and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work practices/requirements
• • Ability to work under minimal supervision but function as part of a team
• • Knowledge of current relevant H&S policies
• • Proficiency in commonly used software packages
• • Willingness to work towards professional registration
