Dr. Woelk's laboratory has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow focused on proteomics and predictive modelling.  Dr. Woelk and his collaborators at the University of Southampton have recently been awarded a Centers Network Accelerator Award from Cancer Research UK in conjunction with the University of Oxford.  The main goal of this award is to monitor the evolving landscape of tumour antigens over the course of immunotherapy using mutanome, proteome and immunopeptidome analysis.  This post will work closely with bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, clinicians, and other collaborators to better understand the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Dr. Woelk is seeking a Research Fellow primarily in the area of bioinformatics but with a strong understanding of predictive modeling and machine learning.  The ideal candidate will have earned their Ph.D. or equivalent professional qualification in an area such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computational biology, or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study.  Essential skills required for this position include proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment and a statistical package (e.g. R or Matlab), as well as an additional programming language (e.g., python, perl, C++, etc).  Individuals with experience in any of these additional areas are strongly encouraged to apply: proteomics (labeled or label-free), transcriptomics (e.g. microarray and RNA-Seq), cancer biology, immunology, predictive modeling and machine learning.

The initial appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of an additional third year.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

The University of Southampton offers benefits associated with national insurance and pension payments.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr. Christopher Woelk (c.h.woelk@soton.ac.uk).  More information on the research activities of the Woelk lab can be found at https://www.southampton.ac.uk/medicine/about/staff/chw1f12.page
