Our School of Māori Education, Te Puna W­­ānanga, is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to complement their existing group of academic staff to undertake research, research-informed teaching and thesis supervision in areas related to Te Ao Māori, the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Reo, Tikanga, cultural diversity and culturally responsive practice in education and social work. The focus of the position will be on the delivery of Te Ao Māori courses across the faculty, particularly at undergraduate level, and across a range of faculty programmes.

Our successful candidate should:

  • hold a Doctorate in a relevant area of Māori education, community development, youth development or social work
  • have a deep knowledge of, and experience in, living and working with Māori communities, hapū/iwi and organisations
  • have an advanced understanding of Mātauranga Māori
  • have critical academic knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi, and cultural diversity and culturally responsive practices in education and/or social services


Ideally the successful applicant will also have:

  • recent experience in lecturing at the New Zealand tertiary level
  • experience with the New Zealand Curriculum or
  • experience in New Zealand youth/social development work
  • prior experience of doctoral thesis supervision, ideally to completion
  • fluency in Te Reo Māori is an advantage


This is a full-time permanent opportunity from 1 March 2017.
