Job Duties

Reporting to the Marketing Director focusing on the Business and Economics list, the Marketing Manager will be part of a global team responsible for supporting growth and increasing usage of the assigned portfolio of books and journals by producing results-oriented, author focused marketing campaigns.  You will work closely with various Springer Nature departments to coordinate the execution of the full marketing mix a range of tactics with a focus on digital campaigns.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • With guidance from the Marketing Director, create, plan, and implement multi-tactic marketing campaigns within assigned portfolio responsibilities to increase product awareness, usage, and new content submissions.
  • Track and analyze marketing efforts to assess effectiveness; reports on activity results
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with editorial teams to identify promotional opportunities
  • Monitor expenses and ensure adherence to budget
  • Help coordinate and attend exhibits at select conferences worldwide
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, competition, and generate campaign ideas based on new opportunities
  • Analyze markets, market segments and competitor activities to increase the effectiveness and ROI of own marketing activities
  • Proactively provide management with updates on marketing activities, ROI and budget
  • Other duties as required by manager

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Extensive experience (3+ years) in marketing, preferably in a (global) publishing environment
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Well versed in digital marketing
  • Broad knowledge and experience of marketing of scholarly/professional books, preferably  in the Humanities and Social Sciences environment
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills
  • Understanding of our target markets and ability to develop innovative strategies to reach them
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, influence and persuade
  • Strong ability to self-organize, prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to build global relationships with other functional groups and gain cooperation from them
  • Proactively facilitates change and uses own initiative to solve problems quickly
  • Creative, forward-thinking, pro-active and self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
