Job Details

The Professor will have a leading role in initiating, coordinating and executing research in quantitative earth observation of inland and coastal water systems, with a focus on spatial water quality and biogeochemical cycles and budgets. The Professor will be responsible for the development and application of novel scientific methods and approaches in quantitative earth observation of water quality (retrieval of aquatic bio-geophysical parameters – with emphasis on biogeochemical cycles and budgets). It is also expected to develop applications in integrated river basin and delta management by linking water quality to water quantity and in monitoring pollution and environmental security. In addition to world-leading research activity the Professor will be responsible, alongside the other Professors and the Chair of Department, for management of the Department. The appointee will play an active role in the teaching and supervision of MSc and PhD students and initialize and lead capacity development projects in ITC’s target countries.

The appointee will hold a PhD in a field relevant to hydrology, biogeochemistry and quantitative earth observation of water quality and have a recognized international position demonstrated by a record of highly cited publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals. He/she will have an outstanding reputation in hydrology and quantitative earth observation of water quality and applications to water resources management, environmental and/or global change studies and evidence of securing external funding. Experience in hydrodynamic water quality modelling and assimilation of earth observation data is also desirable He/she will have a clear vision development of quantitative earth observation in international programs. An affinity with the education, training and capacity development related mission of ITC is a pre-requisite.
