Position Overview - Basic Functions & Responsibility Essential function(s) includes, but is not limited to:
The Senior Specialist functions under the guidance of a Technology Director within Global Engineering Solutions with focus on Design for Safety and Process Safety for all Lines of Business (Human Health, Animal Health, GWES (labs, facilities and utilities)). The Senior Specialist brings forward strong subject matter expertise to lead or support studies and evaluations, determine suitability, establish direction, conduct risk assessments, define safeguards, assess operability, interface with construction and commissioning as well as operational readiness.
The Senior Specialist exhibits strong technical leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, decision making and the ability to guide global work. The candidate should have a strong understanding of equipment and facility design, safety practices, standards, operations, maintenance and industry regulations. Flexibility with global travel and varied work location is also required.
Primary Activities Primary activities include, but are not limited to:
•Interface with SME’s and initiatives within Global Safety & the Environment
•Interface with the Global Engineering Safety Council
•Chair a Global Engineering Process Safety Committee
•Responsibilities range from defining intent in Front-End Loading, Peer input during design, oversight during operation and development and implementation of Process Safety Initiatives.
•Core knowledge should include: Management of Change, Process Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Process Hazard Analysis, Industrial Hygiene, Containment (OEB), Bio-Safety (BSL), Life-Safety, Regulations/Industry Guidance (NFPA, ATEX, CE, Factory Mutual, and OSHA), PSV’s, Dust Handling, Chemical and Biological Processing, Ergonomics and Industry Trends.
•Support to engineers in their assignments via technical/safety guidance.
•Developing and Maintaining core documents such as internal Practices, Procedures, Design Guides and Engineering Standards.
•Participation in professional/technical organizations.
•Development and delivery of training related to safety
•Interface with Industry Peer Groups
Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
A Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Safety or applicable science is required.
Required Experience and Skills:
Prior experience with Engineering Design, Equipment Operation, Vendor Interface, Risk Assessment, Regulations, Process Safety, and Guidance Development is essential.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Demonstrated leadership and safety accreditations are highly desired
