Aga Khan University - Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), established in July 1993, provides teachers and school leaders the skills and opportunities they need to educate future leaders through human resource development, institutional capacity building, policy analysis and research. 

To support this work, the Institute conducts a broad array of academic programmes for in-service teachers, teacher educators and education managers/leaders from both the public and private sectors. These programmes include PhD in Education, MPhil in Education with specializations in Educational Leadership and Management, Assessment and Evaluation, Teacher Education, and Masters of Education, Master of Teaching with specializations in English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, ECED, and Information Technology; as well as Advanced Diplomas in Curriculum Areas, and Educational Leadership and Management, Certificate Programmes, and Continuing Professional Education courses for teachers, teacher educators, principals, and education managers and leaders.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • design, teach and evaluate PhD level course(s) independently and/or in collaboration with concerned faculty members and take these through various academic committees
  • lead PhD, Masters, and Advanced Diploma courses in area of expertise, preferably in Information Technology, Qualitative and / or Quantitative Research Methods, Teacher Education, and other areas of interests
  • co-teach courses at a comparable university as assigned and/or facilitate courses / sessions as guest lecturer
  • provide consultancy to national and international organizations in area of Information Technology, Qualitative and / or Quantitative Research Methods, Teacher Education, and others
  • undertake, lead and promote independent and collaborative research and other scholarly activities at AKU-IED
  • write and review grant proposals, as well as apply and obtain grants from internal and external sources 
  • publish articles in refereed journals, chapters in books and consolidated reports, actively present at conferences and actively participate in knowledge mobilization in the areas of Information Technology, Qualitative and / or Quantitative Research Methods, Teacher Education, and others  
  • develop curricula and education programmes in the areas of Information Technology, Qualitative and / or Quantitative Research Methods, Teacher Education, and teach fully on-line and blended courses 
  • mentor IED’s junior faculty in the subject area 
  • contribute to the faculty professional development within AKU and outside 
  • carry out educational management and academic leadership activities such as chairing committees, designing, and leading degree and non-degree programmes
  • create links with government and non-governmental organizations over issues of common interest.

Requirements

You should have:

  • a Master degree in Information Technology with a PhD in Education or with work that links to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) from an HEC recognized or foreign university/institution
  • at least five years’ post-PhD experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate and post graduate level courses in the areas of information communication technology teaching, teacher education 
  • teaching/research experience in a HEC recognized university 
  • a good record of scholarly publications in HEC recognized journals plus demonstrated scholarly contributions to education, research, professional services and institutional development at a national or international level
  • leadership skills and ability to form and develop team members, and undertake complex assignments involving interdisciplinary coordination and program management 
  • excellent conceptual, analytical and communications skills in both oral and written forms.
