Senior Lecturer (Statistician)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Do statistical analysis for PhD and Master’s students at the UFS
  • Do statistical consultation work for external parties
  • Present lectures to students as required by the department
  • Actively market the Statistical Consultation Unit
  • Perform administrative tasks as allocated
  • Active research and publishing required
  • Inherent requirements:

    • PhD in Mathematical Statistics
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers / posters at national scholarly conferences
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship
    • A NRF rating or demonstrable potential for obtaining a NRF rating
    • Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in accredited national and international journals
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society, or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels

    Required competencies:

  • Computer literate
  • SAS & R programming
  • Report writing
  • Working in a group
  • Good communicator
  • Good presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Recommendations:

    • 4 years’ statistical consultation experience (minimum)
    • Management experience
    • Marketing skills
    • Actuarial background
