Lecturer in Nutritional Science

Job Purpose

SportexR is a world-leader in exercise and nutrition research. Our research portfolio includes implementing community-based lifestyle interventions to reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes, nutritional intervention strategies to maintain and/ or improve musculoskeletal function in frail populations, the investigation of novel methods to enhance sporting performance, as well as mechanistic studies of the responsiveness of the human body to nutrition at a cellular and sub-cellular level. This is supported by dedicated research facilities that are second-to-none in the UK, if not globally in our field.

To compliment and continue our success in this area, we are looking to strategically recruit an individual with a strong academic background in Nutritional Science, with an interest in applying their expertise to physical activity/exercise contexts. In addition to supporting the School’s existing research, the provision of specific expertise in Nutritional Science will foster new interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University (e.g., Psychology, Chemical Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry). It will also significantly strengthen undergraduate and postgraduate teaching offering through development of new modules/ programmes, such as public health nutrition, clinical nutrition and nutrition policy.

The post-holder will contribute to capacity building in research and teaching within a field for which the School has a globally-recognised reputation, as well as support a highly research active and successful research income-generating Physiology Research and Teaching Group.

Person Specification

• • Normally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications
• • Extensive research/teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism
• • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning/ research
• • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels

Research

• • Experience and achievement reflected in a growing reputation
• • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and project managing research to deliver high quality results
• • Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity

Teaching

• • Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes
