Position Description:

- Lead teams to develop microbial, viral and cell culture processes that are robust, scalable and economical for microbial fermentor, bioreactor and/or roller bottle platforms in the production of veterinary viral vaccines.

- Leads large cross-functional teams and demonstrates working knowledge of current USDA regulatory guidelines and advanced technical knowledge.

- Applies business skills related to building working relationships and ensure information flows to manufacturing, R&D and QC groups.

- Leads team to develop creative approaches and solutions. Seeks out new platform technologies and improve existing processes.

- Oversee scaling up of production processes, making cost effective changes to raw materials or components and process parameters to ensure quality is maintained in large-scale production.

- Participate on teams in problem solving activities using Lean Manufacturing tool to ensure direction and control of continuous improvement, waste reduction and yield improvement.

- Collaborates and interfaces with R&D and Manufacturing to bring new products to market.

- Ensure team is properly trained on documentation. Prepares comprehensive, accurate and well-written project summaries and reports.

- Interacts routinely and effectively with Manufacturing, Quality and Research.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

- B.S. in relevant field of study

Required Experience and Skills:

- B.S., MS or PhD +10 years experience in veterinary vaccine R&D, Process Development or Manufacturing.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Excellent project management, documentation and writing skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Experience in bioprocess scale up and vaccine manufacturing

- Working knowledge of USDA regulations

- Working knowledge of the departmental budget process.
