Research Fellow – Infrared Optical Fibres
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow to join a team based research group in the area of infrared optical fibres. The research is based in the Optoelectronic Research Centre and is supervised by Professor Dan Hewak. The research combines fundamental aspects of material synthesis, developing new processes and material capabilities with a strong optical fibre device emphasis. Some aspects of the work are funded by industry and there will be opportunities for numerous international collaborations.
The position is funded by ChAMP (http://chalcogenide.net), the Chalcogenide Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, a five year EPSRC funded project aimed at linking academic research with the UK photonics industry for the exploitation of advanced materials. You will have relevant postgraduate/post-doctoral in chalcogenide glass manufacture and fibre drawing.
We are looking for an experienced physicist, chemist or engineer with experience in chalcogenide glass and fibre research. The candidate will design, model, layout, fabricate, and test next generation optical fibres and devices based on emerging chalcogenide materials. We are looking for a person with excellent technical and interpersonal skills, a good communicator, and someone who can comfortably work in a fast moving multidisciplinary field.
The appointment is initially for a 1-year period, ideally starting in January 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, with potential for further extension.
