We are looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic individual with an interest in the technological application of fundamental science for the role of Programme Manager (Enterprise Fellow) on a £6M, 5 year flagship research project just starting at the University of Southampton. The project will apply our state of the art electrodeposition process to the production of devices in the fields of thermoelectrics, phase change memory and IR sensors. The person appointed will join a multidisciplinary team of approximately 20-30 scientists working at the Universities of Southampton. Warwick and Nottingham in Chemistry, Physics and Electronics. The project is led by Prof. Phil Bartlett, FRS and a team of 6 academics.

The role will involve supporting the successful delivery of the project in variety of different ways. These will include administering reporting and data curation, arranging events such as industrial Advisory board meetings, supporting the development of industrial leads and industrially focused marketing materials, working with university accountants to keep a clear view of the projects financial position, and organising, and perhaps delivering, outreach events to explain the project to the general public.  There is some flexibility to mould the role to the strengths, experience and abilities of the successful applicant and track record of being willing to learn and develop new skills is more important than any particular piece of previous experience.

The successful candidate will have a first degree in science or engineering and either a related PhD or significant industrial experience in a high tech field.  They will be computer literate with strong communications skills and a proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Particularly beneficial would be experience in one or more areas of website development, public outreach, IP protection and exploitation, and project management. They will be excited by the various different roles they will play and gain satisfaction from finding ways they can contribute to the project.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof. Phil Bartlett (P.N.Bartlett@soton.ac.uk).

This is a 2 year fixed term appointment with the possibility of extension and is available to start immediately.

At the University of Southampton we promote equality and value diversity.
