Academic Development Practitioner

Ref: E301

The Academic Development Practitioner is responsible for the development and maintenance of all academic projects pertaining to student, staff and programmes. The Academic Development Practitioner supports the Executive Dean in the strategic academic development operations of the Faculty.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Three (3) years of Higher Education experience with at least three (3) years of experience at a tertiary institution in academic development related to key functions as defined in the responsibilities for the post
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who are currently registered for a Master’s degree, have extensive experience in academic development in higher education, specifically in relation to new programme accreditation through CHE, projects linked to TDG, third stream income and e-Learning. Such experience must be validated by way of evidence as well as referees’ reports

  • Ability to think flexibly, innovatively and analytically


Summary of Duties:

  • Serving specific needs of each Department in terms of Academic Development of students
  • Approval, accreditation and registration of new academic programmes within the Faculty
  • Ensuring academic compliance by departments according to HEQSF, CHE guidelines, DHET policies, SAQA guidelines, DUT policies and procedures, professional bodies or any other legally binding policies
  • Contribute to projects that add value to student centredness and engagement
  • Planning and implementing intervention strategies to reduce dropout rates and increase through-put and success rates for undergraduate programmes
  • Coordinate the Faculty tutorship programme
  • Coordinate projects linked to the Teaching development Grant as prescribed by DHET requirements
  • Development and approval of short courses for third stream income generation
  • Coordinate General Education within the Faculty
  • Oversee ECP and e-Learning
  • APC reporting

 

Salary: R278700 to R466512 p a plus benefits
