ARC Centre of Excellence in Environmental Decisions

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions (CEED) vision is to be the world's leading research centre for solving environmental management problems and for evaluating the outcomes of environmental actions. The Centre's research benefits environmental science, policy and management across Australia and around the world by solving complex problems of environmental management and monitoring in a rapidly changing and uncertain world.

CEED commenced in 2011 with funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence Program. CEED is a partnership of five Collaborating Organisations (The University of Queensland, The University of Melbourne, The Australian National University, RMIT University, and The University of Western Australia) and five Partner Organisations, (CSIRO, Trinity College Dublin, Imperial College London, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Israel and the US Geological Survey). Its operations are managed from the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

Since its establishment, CEED has been pushing the frontiers of environmental decision science. The need for the Centre is based on the premise that in Australia and around the world, biodiversity and environmental problems have not been property formulated and scarce resources have not been allocated in the most effective manner. Despite the planet facing the sixth mass extinction of species, most conservation management is not evaluated or efficient. CEED is providing international leadership in tackling complex problems of environmental management and monitoring in an uncertain world.

Individually our key researchers are recognised as global leaders in environmental science. CEED has drawn together this expertise to produce a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary Centre, with a complement of over 100 researchers including our chief investigators, partner investigators, Post-Doctoral Fellows and senior researchers, and PhD students.

The role

Biodiversity is in rapid decline around the world, and we are seeking a research assistant to contribute to innovative interdisciplinary research projects aimed at understanding the enabling conditions of success in conservation. We expect this work to lead to high impact publications, and to continue to shape conservation policy in Australia and throughout the world. The successful appointee will join a highly productive and dynamic environment of 100+ conservation researchers at UQ.

The person

The successful applicant will possess a degree in a relevant discipline (conservation, geography, social sciences, or economics), with experience of applied conservation problems. You will need a proven ability to generate and work with large, quantitative and/or qualitative datasets. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Professional Research HEW Level 5 for 1 year. The remuneration package will be in the range $62,716.31 - $70,241.69 per annum, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $68,674.36 to $76,914.66 p.a.).
