Registered Nurse (Head and Neck Surgery programme), Service Line - Eye & ENT

The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi is proud to have qualified and dedicated Team of Surgeons, Medical, Nursing and Allied professionals within the Service Line Eye and ENT. Using state of the art equipment helps to identify, diagnose and treat Eye and ENT related problems. The service line offers a variety of surgical treatment procedures like cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery, glaucoma drainage surgery, mid face reconstruction and cosmetic surgery, squint surgery, retinal detachment surgery. The procedures like cochlear implants, reconstructive surgery post trauma or cancer head and neck surgery are unique to ENT. Based on the specialized procedures, patients are accommodated in the out-patient as well as the in-patient areas. Eye and ENT believes in innovation, exemplary care and access to services for all.

The service line is offering the Head and Neck Surgery programme which aims to provide patient care to for Head and Neck Cancer patients.

Responsibilities

You will act as a liaison between the Head and Neck surgeon and their patients and families.  You will be expected to have basic knowledge of Head and Neck Cancer care and will be assisting the patients in the clinical care before and after the surgery as well as during survivorship follow-ups. Specific responsibilities include to:

• facilitate patients in admissions
• conduct Inpatient rounds and regularly assess clinical condition of the patients in the ward
• document clinical notes and coordinate for clinical tests to allow smooth process flow during the length of stay of patients as per the Hospital’s protocols
• coordinate for clinics with the surgeons as well as helping them with the weekly Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Tumor Board meetings.

 

Requirements

You must have:

• Diploma in Nursing from an accredited school preferably with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN)
• at least two years of relevant work experience
• valid license from Pakistan Nursing Council
• Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Safe Medication Administration, Aseptic Techniques, I/V Cannulation, Tool Training, Basic Life Support (BLS), caring for ophthalmologic patients and facilitation course, conscious sedation and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• possess clinical knowledge and competencies in Head and Neck Surgery and ability to effectively communicate with the consultants, other staff and patients
• good interpersonal skills particularly in efficient patient counseling and coordinating for diagnostic tests 
• willing to work in shift duties.
