Manager of Technology and External Research

The Manager of Technology and External Research will partner with the VP Technology and Innovation and R&D leadership to drive the global PerkinElmer effort toward identifying, evaluating, and championing innovative new markets, technologies and customer driven product offerings.   In this role you will help identify and monitor key technologies and innovations by interfacing with the external innovation community and coordinating PerkinElmer’s knowledge base and global point of view on the most impactful emerging developments and technologies.

PerkinElmer has a strong set of technologies across various end-markets in the diagnostics, life and analytical sciences industry. This role will be critical in contributing to the future direction and growth of the company and the investments in new or emerging technologies. The ideal candidate must be passionate about identifying new and novel technologies and market opportunities as well as promoting internal innovation.


Responsibilities:

• Identify potential emerging technology opportunities, in-licensing prospects, and partnerships, supporting one or more scientific/business areas of interest, including establishing a central repository of actionable intelligence on relevant emerging technologies and innovative business models, via tech scouting and enhanced by external collaborations and partnerships
• Provide scientific evaluation of external opportunities in one or more areas of strategic interest; lead an initial evaluation, interfacing with cross functional teams as needed and identify the most promising to pursue further
• Provide specific technology expertise across all business units to help advance and drive internal and external innovation
• Lead and coordinate the company’s global Innovation Review Forum which is responsible for improving overall innovation efforts across the various business units
• Be visible with external scientific community and network with industry leaders as required with potential partners and at business or technical meetings, including cultivating impactful relationships with the external innovation community, including leading universities and research organizations, as well as start-up companies
