The School of Chemical Engineering

The School of Chemical Engineering is an international leader in the chemical engineering field and has an excellent international reputation which has been built over four decades at the University. With 35 academic staff, including 17 professors, the School provides quality programs and leadership in chemical engineering education, research and development, and expert consulting to support the process industries.

UQ Chemical Engineering was ranked in the top 16 worldwide in the 2012 QS subject rankings for chemical engineering and was the top ranking school in Australia. It was also given the highest score awarded for chemical engineering in Australia in the recent ERA study.

Recently we have established new research areas to attack the problems in the minerals industry addressing low quality ores, low quality and saline water and complicated base metal and precious minerals. The fundamental feature in these research areas is the application of colloid, interfacial and solution chemistry as well as electrochemistry in chemical and metallurgical processing. These research areas are very successful and have secured sufficient research funding from the minerals and energy industry, reagent companies and the Australian Research Council with national and international collaborations.

Information about the Faculty and the School may be accessed on the Faculty's web site at http://www.uq.edu.au/eait.

The role

The successful candidates will conduct their PhD studies to understand the reactions responsible for major problems in recovering base metal and precious minerals from low quality ores and develop corresponding solutions. The candidates will work within a large research team consisting of a number of other research high degree students, research fellows, industry senior experts and project leaders.

The person

Candidates should possess a Masters degree (or 2A Hons degree) or should be close to receiving their degree from relevant disciplines with knowledge in surface chemistry and electrochemistry.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion.

Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For further information please contact our Australian Indigenous Employment Coordinator at: atsi_recruitment@uq.edu.au
