The University of Southampton have recently been awarded a Centers Network Accelerator Award from Cancer Research UK in conjunction with the University of Oxford.  The main goal of this award is to monitor the evolving landscape of tumour antigens over the course of immunotherapy using mutanome, proteome and immunopeptidome analysis.  This post will work closely with bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, clinicians, and other collaborators to better understand the efficacy of immunotherapy.

The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Professor Tim Elliott, who has an ongoing programme of research into the mechanism and significance of antigen processing and presentation, with a thriving interdisciplinary research group of around fifteen scientists including immunologists, biochemists, computational scientists and structural biologists.  His research encompasses atom-level understanding of antigen processing through to preclinical modelling of anti-cancer immunity.  The current post is for a quantitative biologist to work primarily in the area of immunopeptidomics involving mass spectrometric analysis of complex peptide mixtures.  Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of bioinformatics and a strong understanding of predictive modeling.  The ideal candidate will have earned their Ph.D. in an area such as bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computational biology, or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study.  Individuals with experience in any of these additional areas are strongly encouraged to apply: proteomics (labeled or label-free), transcriptomics (e.g. microarray and RNA-Seq), cancer biology, immunology, predictive modeling.

The initial appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of additional years.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

The University of Southampton offers benefits associated with national insurance and pension payments.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Tim Elliott (tje@soton.ac.uk).

You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above.
