Our standing as NZ's leading tertiary institution is the result of our people.  We are currently searching for a talented professional to provide operational leadership to the Business Intelligence and Applications teams in IT Services.  ITS at The University of Auckland supports one of NZ’s largest and most complex IT environments with close to 50,000 end users, ranked the 2nd largest ICT user in the 2016 CIO annual report.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an IT leader to join the team and oversee the Business Intelligence and Applications environment. Reporting to the Director IT Services, you will oversee the development of Applications strategies at the University as well as the management of Business Intelligence, Web and Applications development and support teams.  This is an exciting time as we move into responsive design and agile development.

In this key role you will:

  • Play a role in strategic and operational planning and provide strong people leadership capability to drive a performance culture within ITS, in collaboration with the IT Senior Leadership Team.
  • Provide sound management expertise to support the BI and Applications team (six direct reports and more than 60 indirect reports).
  • Work with Application stakeholders and contribute to the development of strategies and delivery priorities for key Applications (including ERP) across the University.
  • Liaise with the Enterprise Architecture Team to support development of the University Architecture and ensure effective implementation of the same.
  • Using a collaborative approach, lead the development of strategies and plans to ensure that Business Intelligence and Applications services are configured to meet the requirements of the University.
  • Oversee major projects and activities of the Business Intelligence and Applications teams ensuring projects are well managed and deliver the required business benefit.
  • Create an environment that supports forward thinking, innovation and responsiveness as we maintain current technologies and investigate and adopt new technologies to meet university needs.
  • Ensure proper representation of ITS on Steering Committees and ensure ITS is adequately represented on the governance of projects.

You will bring to the role your expertise in the management of Application development and delivery gained in a large and complex IT environment. Experience in the delivery of Web based applications, an understanding of digital strategies (particularly in the mobile and web environments), experience in promoting innovate thinking, and a sound of knowledge of ERP systems will also be key to your success.  Your customer focus, ability to provide strategic leadership and commercial acumen will play an important part in your success, as will your ability to gain the respect of multiple senior stakeholders.

This role provides an opportunity to join a professional and dedicated team, where you will be rewarded through working for one of Auckland’s largest employers in one of the most significant IT environments.

For a confidential discussion please contact Anne Casey on 09 9233800.

Applications close on 1st January 2017.
