Director (post level 5) (contract appointment: 5 years)

Duties and responsibilities:

Position the university’s postgraduate programme and researcher capacity development programmes at a level of both national and international excellence.

Develop, refine and implement strategic support programmes for postgraduate students.

Develop, implement and evaluate researcher capacity development programmes for staff and emerging researchers.

Provide strategic support to staff in order to acquire higher degree qualifications and assist with their development as leading researchers.

Develop and review policies relevant to postgraduate education at the university.

Source external funding for bursaries and scholarships to support postgraduate students.

Support faculties in the facilitation of research and research supervision skills development.

Respond to the Department of Higher Education and Training’s policy documents, draft proposals, and reports related to research capacity building. 

Inherent requirements:

A PhD degree.

Five (5) years’ experience working in a similar environment and proven experience in the higher education environment.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups.

Ability to manage staff in order to ensure high-quality projects and events, and high levels of professionalism and integrity.

Recommendations:

Proven record of successfully managed organisation-wide programmes meeting agreed targets.

International higher education experience.

Well-respected leader who is able to motivate the academic community and postgraduate students.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s parallel-medium and richly diverse working environment.

Term of office:

Five (5) years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term.
