Professor, The Academy of Sport

Job purpose

To provide strategic and operational direction to the Academy of Sport Unit. He/she shall also provide academic leadership, primarily through demonstrating and fostering excellence in research, teaching in the area of Sport and through the provision of guidance and assistance to more junior staff in developing their capacity for teaching and research.

In addition, the Professor is also required to support and ensure all validation processes (institutional and specialized accreditation) relevant to the Unit are followed.

Duties

• Enacts curriculum, develops course materials and assigns projects for both undergraduate and graduate courses;
• Undertakes research projects;
• Grades and assesses student learning outcomes;
• Supervises junior and support staff and performs academic advising;
• Participates in the training process of a new generation of researchers in his/her area of expertise;
• Delivers training as and when required;
• Supervises field and clinical experiences.
• Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals;
• Makes presentations at conferences;
• Stays current in related discipline through involvement in professional organizations, workshops, etc.;
• Secures research grant funding;
• Fosters a culture of techno-entrepreneurship.
• Provides leadership support at various levels of the University;
• Participates in various committees at the University as well as provides service to the wider community through workshops, seminars, public lectures and consulting services to government and industry.

Qualifications & Experience

• Ph.D., EdD, DPT, D.Sc. or other terminal degree in any of the disciplines taught at the Academy of Sport; Sport Studies, Physical Education, Sport Management, Exercise Science, Sport for Development, Athletic Training, Physiotherapy, and or any other related discipline from a recognized University Institution with relevant combination of experience and training
• A minimum of twelve (12) years at a Senior Level actively involved in teaching and research in an institution of higher learning including six (6) years at an Associate Professorship and Management levels
• Demonstrated scholarly activity (publications/presentations etc.) at a local and international level
• Consideration will be given to professional / industry experience
