Research Fellow, Meteorology, Fluid Dynamics

Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in Meteorology or Fluid Dynamics? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

This post is part of the NERC-funded project SGWEX (South Georgia Wave Experiment). The project is focussed on observing and understanding the role of local versus non-local gravity waves in exerting drag on the atmosphere over the Southern Ocean and the role of small islands, such as South Georgia, in the generation of these waves. This post will contribute to the analysis of both observational and model data over the island. In particular you will focus on the representation of the low-level wake structure and gravity wave field in high resolution models and their parametrisation in global models.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in a quantitative physical science, such as Physics, Applied Mathematics or Meteorology. You will also have a strong background in Meteorology or Fluid Dynamics in addition to having experience of numerical modelling and/or data analysis.
