School of Biomedical Sciences
The University of Queensland School of Biomedical Sciences is a distinguished School for teaching and research in the academic disciplines of Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Neurosciences, Physiology, and Pharmacology. The School is one of the largest Schools of its type in Australia and has links to other prestigious research centres on the St Lucia campus which include the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), The Institute of Molecular Bioscience (IMB) and The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN). Our diverse and state-of-theart research provides an exciting environment for national and international research fellows and higher degree students.
The School currently employs a total of 122.5 (FTE) employees, comprised of 23.3 (FTE) teaching and research academics, 41 (FTE) research focussed academics, 11.9 (FTE) teaching focussed academics and 46.3 (FTE) professional staff members. The role
The Head of School of Biomedical Sciences provides academic and administrative leadership to the School. A fundamental responsibility of the Head is to ensure the School's production of high quality graduates and research outputs that have national and international impact. The Head will ensure the School is highly engaged within the Faculty of Medicine so that the performance of the University is maximised.
The person
This prestigious role calls for a very experienced academic leader with highly developed people and management skills, including a track record of leading cultural change and motivating staff. The Head is expected to have a strong track record of successful research, be able to enhance current research strengths in the School, and be capable of delivering a program of high quality education at scale. The successful applicant to this post will have a higher degree in the area of or related to biomedical sciences and an ability to establish effective relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues to represent and promote the interests of the School.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 5 years at Academic Level E. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate including 17% superannuation.
