Job Details
The Faculty of Law, founded in 1892, offers the JD degree and a JD/MBA program in a supportive and collegial environment. UNB Law defines its mission as providing high quality, accessible, legal education to a small cadre of students from across Canada, welcoming approximately ninety students annually. The JD program is highly structured, preparing students for the professional practice of law in a way that is consistent with the university’s traditional role of fostering critical inquiry and personal growth. UNB Law’s research mission is national and international while maintaining a commitment to service to the Atlantic region. UNB Law will celebrate its 125th Anniversary in 2017.
Reporting to the Vice-President Academic (Fredericton), the Dean of Law is the chief executive officer and public face of the Faculty of Law, responsible for the overall management of the Faculty and the Gérard V. La Forest Law Library. The Dean is expected to provide strategic and effective leadership within the Faculty, the University and the profession, contributing to the further development of the Faculty with regard to research, teaching, and service.
Strong candidates will have the ability to motivate and support high quality teaching and scholarship in a collegial academic setting. Their record will show success in fostering a respectful, collaborative work environment. They will be excited by the opportunity to promote the mission of a small, excellent law school and improve access to justice within an increasingly diverse Canadian legal profession. An advanced degree in Law will be considered an asset for this position.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Applicants should indicate current citizenship status.
The University of New Brunswick is committed to the principle of Employment Equity.
